International Day of Peace

Thursday, September 21, 2006

In the midst of the banging war drum heard from New York this week as both President Bush and Prime Minister Harper talked about global terror, the Afghan mission and pending confrontations with Iran; people around the world marked the day with a call for peace.

At U of G students went out to Johnston Green at 12 noon to symbolize the desire for world peace by forming a large, human peace sign. The International Day of Peace was established in 1981 by the UN General Assembly as a day of global ceasefire and non-violence, an invitation to all nations and people to honour a cessation of hostilities during the Day.
