Students can now enjoy all elements of The Bookshelf with their free memberships

Downtown Guelph is a wonderful place to be all year round. There are always adorable shops to browse through, concerts and movies to attend, and music pouring out of the local bars. One of Guelph’s most unique and exciting places to visit downtown is The Bookshelf.

The Bookshelf is not your average bookstore. It is comprised of a restaurant, a bar, a cinema, and, of course, a bookstore. This diverse shop is quintessential for Guelph students and residents alike.

This year, The Bookshelf has generously given University of Guelph students free memberships that students received when picking up their bus passes. If you were lucky enough to snag a membership, here is what is it worth to you. Students will receive 10% off books, 10% off food in the eBar and greenroom, and $3.00 off of movies. The typical cost of this membership is $30.00.

Why such a generous offer, you might ask?

Not only is The Bookshelf compassionate towards the financial burdens students face, but a strong relationship exists between the University and The Bookshelf. Thirty eight years ago when The Bookshelf was in its early stages of development, the University of Guelph played a pivotal role in assisting them with their expansion.

As a result of a long standing relationship, The Bookshelf is eager to support the students of the University in times of need. Manager Ben Minett expresses that their business “understands  how hard students have been hit by the recession…[and] we wanted to excite them about the various things we do - books , movies, food and live music and make these events more accessible financially.”

Not only will students and The Bookshelf benefit from the distribution of these memberships, but the downtown economy will also prosper with more students supporting a local business.

Whether you are looking for some delicious food, a night of great music and tasty drinks, to comfortably watch a great film, The Bookshelf is the place to be downtown Guelph.
