Meet your CSA General Election candidates: Demetria Jackson

Monday, February 22, 2010

Name: Demetria Jackson

Position: Communications & Corporate Affairs Commissioner

Candidate Statement:

"My name is Demetria Jackson and I am currently a third year Criminal Justice and Public Policy major. I am running for the Communications and Corporate Affairs Commissioner position because it is specifically in charge of informing students by being a liason between the Board of Directors, the CSA executives, the Administration and you, the students. The Communications and Corporate Affairs Commissioner play a central role in the CSA by providing students with all vital information that affects them on a day to day basis. If elected to this position I will do just that, and more. My previous experience on the Board of Directors for the Ontario Public Interest Research Group (OPIRG) has given me the confidence to speak out on difficult issues. In addition, as an executive commissioner, I will be able to use those skills I have learned as a board member, to help empower the CSA's Board of Directors to make informed decisions about significant issues that affect you, the student.

As a student, I have felt uninformed about key issues that affect me every day. I know what it feels like to not feel empowered to voice my opinions on what I believe is wrong. Therefore, my campaign is one that will most benefit you, and is based on empowerment, accountability and transparency (EAT). Better empowerment enables you to hold me accountable, and more accountability allows for a transparent CSA.

During elections week, whether you vote Demetria Jacksons for Communications and Corporate Affairs Commissioner or not, remember that YOU have a vote, and YOU can make a change within your student union."
