Controlled Drug and Substances Act Search Warrant Executed-Arrests – Last Wednesday at 2:00 pm, members of the Guelph Police Service Drug Unit executed a Controlled Drug and Substances Act search warrant at 100 Deerpath Drive as a result of an investigation into an indoor marijuana growing operation at this address. 107 marijuana plants with an approximated street value of $107,000 were seized as well as 143 grams of processed marijuana with an approximate value of $1430.00. Equipment valued at $2000, $1490 in Canadian currency and $202 in American currency were also seized during the investigation. Two adult residents were arrested for Production of a Controlled Substance and Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking. Huu Dung Le, 39 years and Bich-Tram Le-Thi 33 years will appear in bail court today. Two children aged 18 months and 8 years were taken into the care of Family and Children Services.

Motor Vehicle Collision – A 64-year-old Kitchener male escaped injury last Wednesday at 8:50 pm when his 2001 Nissan collided with a loaded transport truck on Woodlawn Rd. The transport, operated by a 49-year-old Mississauga male, was heading westbound on Woodlawn. The Nissan was also westbound on Woodlawn, behind the transport. As the transport slowed to turn right into a private drive, the Nissan driver collided with the trailer section of the unit causing the car to be wedged underneath the trailer. The driver of the car did not sustain any injuries but his vehicle, valued at $8500 was demolished. The trailer sustained approximately $5000 in damage. The transport driver has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act. Guelph Police continue to investigate and ask that any witnesses contact Cst. Greg Kaut of the Traffic Unit.

Break, Enter and Theft – occurred in the morning hours last Wednesday at a townhouse on Victoria Rd N. Entry was gained by forcing a rear patio door open. A Toshiba lap top computer was taken. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cst. Dave Collie.

Assault-Arrest – A second youth has been charged in connection with an assault that occurred on Wednesday March 25th at a high school in Guelph. A 15-year-old Guelph youth will appear in court in May 2007 for his role in an assault on a 15-year-old Guelph youth that was video taped by a cell phone and placed on the Internet. The investigation is still ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to contact Cst. Arif Hasham.

Arrest-Break, Enter and Theft – On Tuesday March 13th, the Wet Dry Facility on Dunlop Rd was entered and a number of computers and other electronic equipment were stolen. The value of the theft was in excess of $10,000. Some of the property has been recovered in another jurisdiction and Guelph Police Property Unit officers have arrested a 22-year-old Guelph male for Break, Enter and Theft and Breach of Probation. He will appear in court in May 2007. The investigation continues and other arrest(s) are expected. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact the Property Unit.

Arrest-Assault With a Weapon-Utter Threats-Assault Police – On Saturday at 11:30 pm, Guelph Police attended an apartment on Dawson Rd. Police investigation revealed that a 26-year-old male tenant of the apartment had stabbed his 26-year-old female roommate in the hand with scissors and bit her nose during an altercation prior to police arrival. The male was combative with police and resisted arrest, striking out at officers with his fists. A taser was deployed to gain control of him during the arrest. None of the officers involved sustained any injuries. The victim was treated at the scene by Royal City Ambulance for two punctures to her hand and a cut to her nose. The male faces charges of Assault with a Weapon, Uttering Threats, two counts of Assault Police with Intent to Resist Arrest and two counts of Failing to Comply with a Probation Order.

Arrest-Drugs – On Monday at 3:40 am, Guelph Police conducted a traffic stop at Woodlawn Rd and Country Club Rd on a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire. The driver, a 40-year-old Guelph female was subsequently arrested for three counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking. During the arrest police seized crack cocaine valued at $1820, Oxicodone pills valued at $280, Morphine pills valued at $270 and approximately $300 cash. Kathleen Mathewson of Guelph appeared in bail court on Tuesday. The passenger, a 19-year-old Guelph female was also arrested on an outstanding warrant and held for a bail hearing.

Arrest-Assault – On Friday at 3:35 am, a 45-year-old Guelph female was in the downtown getting into her parked vehicle when a male not known to her attempted to get into her vehicle and offered to pay her money for a ride home. The victim refused and when the male approached her, she pushed him away. The male punched the victim in the mouth and police were called. The victim did not require medical attention for a bruised mouth. A 37-year-old Guelph male will appear in court in May on the charge of Assault.

Fire – The Guelph Police Service in co-ordination with the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office and the Guelph Fire Department continue to investigate a fire that occurred at 1:50 am on Friday at 69 Wyndham St N. The cause of the fire is suspicious and evidence continues to be gathered and witnesses continue to be interviewed. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Guelph Police at ext. 344 and leave a name and number where you can be reached.

Another Fire – At 3:10 pm on Friday emergency services from fire, police and ambulance attended a house fire at 55 Manitoba St. The house was engulfed in smoke upon their arrival and four occupants, two adults and two children were evacuated from the residence. One male was transported to the Guelph General Hospital where he was treated and released for smoke inhalation. It would appear the fire started in the basement and Guelph Fire is investigating the cause. Damage is estimated at approximately $100,000.

Assault – Guelph Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating a male responsible for an assault that occurred on Thursday at 10:20pm on Keys Cres. A 16-year-old Guelph female was walking on Key and was approached from behind by an unknown male. The male threw the female to the ground and she screamed. The female received minor injuries and did not require medical attention. The male fled on foot and is described as: black, 18-30 years of age, approximately 6-feet tall, medium build, wearing a dark coat and toque. Anyone with any information is asked to call Cst. Motor Vehicle Collision - Impaired Arrest – On Sunday at 3:20 am, a 21-year-old Guelph male was operating a 1995 Ford Escort southbound on Norfolk St. He approached Waterloo Ave at a high rate of speed and lost control, striking a curb and a light standard. Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $8000 and the light standard damage estimate is approximately $200. The male sustained minor injuries that did not require medical attention. He is charged with Impaired Driving, Drive Over 80 Mgs and Highway Traffic Act offences and will appear in court in May 2007.

Break and Enter – On Monday at 3:40am, a male attempted to enter two garages of homes on Edinburgh Rd S. A homeowner confronted the male and he fled on foot. No theft occurred and the male is described as: male, white, approximately 6’-6’2’’ tall, 200-210 pounds, wearing a toque, beige coat with red stripes down the arm and dark pants or jeans. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact Cst. Hall.

Break, Enter and Theft – On Saturday workers at the construction site at Wilson St and Carden St contacted Guelph Police to report that someone had cut through the tarp at the rear of the construction site. One of the buildings under construction was entered and four Motorola portable radios were stolen. The radios are valued at $1200.

Arrest-Drugs/Firearm- Today at 1:00 am, Guelph Police conducted a traffic stop on a 1999 Jeep Cherokee in the plaza at Woolwich St and Speedvale Ave E. The 21-year-old Guelph male driver and 43-year-old Guelph male passenger are jointly charged with numerous firearm offences after a handgun was found on the backseat of the vehicle. A small quantity of crack cocaine (1 gram) was also seized from the vehicle and they are jointly charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance. The 21-year-old is additionally charged with two counts of Possession of a Firearm Contrary to a Prohibition Order and four counts of Breach of Probation. The 43-year-old is additionally charged with Breach of Recognizance. Both will appear in bail court on the later today.

Assault-A 15-year-old Guelph male has been charged with Assault in connection with an incident that occurred at a local high school on Tuesday March 27th. The youth will appear in court in May 2007 for his role in an assault on another 15-year-old student. The assault was captured on video tape and then put on the Internet. This is the third arrest in the investigation. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cst. Arif Hasham.
