Senate vote to accelerate Fall Schedule

Sunday, September 30, 2007

It's coming up fast, on Tuesday October 2nd the Senate is going to voting on a proposal to change the schedule of dates for the fall semester. Currently there are 3000 students that essentially miss a week of classes due to Monday night classes being cancelled for Thanksgiving each year. The change would involve classes begining 2 days earlier on the Thursday of O-week. Then, classes would end on Wednesday with Thursday of the last week of classes being a make up day for the classes missed on Thanksgiving and Friday being a reading day.

There are many things that bear consideration in regards to this proposed change. To that end a Facebook group has been formed to allow people to sound off with their opinions. To check the group out for yourself or to check out discusion focused by degree and/or speciality follow the links below.

I would like to thank all students for their input and feedback, your contributions were invaluable to the arguments presented by your student senators.

The proposed changes to the schedule of dates passed 53 to 49. More information regarding this change will become available in the near future.

The FROSH need the time to meet one another which requires at least a week. Those extra days of interaction are of value far greater than the value of finishing 2 days earlier.
