The Dirty Nil Returns to Guelph

Every so often, a band hailing from the same small town as me ventures to Guelph. Embodying the Dundas, Ontario charm, The Dirty Nil is always an entertaining and energetic show to watch.
The Dirty Nil is comprised of Luke Bentham (vocals and lead guitar), Dave Nardi (bass), and Kyle Fisher (drums). Luke and Kyle created the band five years ago, in high school, and Dave joined the group in 2009. Currently, they have released two EPs with a full length album on the way.
Luke emphasized that all three members of the Dirty Nil are integral to its sound and the way that the songs come together; it truly is a collaboration of melodies, harmonies and complex arrangements. Although they do not often have time to get together and practice, sinc Luke goes to school full time in Waterloo and the other two live permanently in Hamilton, they have been playing weekly shows together for at least three years.
When asked what the message behind his lyrics is, Luke said that the songs are interpretive and that listeners should draw conclusions based on their own feelings.
The Dirty Nil is inspired by people they know and other bands that they have played with. They attempt to make their records an honest representation of their sound, and plan to continue touring. Luke says that they are a live band at heart, and encourages everyone to go out and support live music.
Currently, there is no end in sight for the trio, and they are working on planning a release as well as shopping around for a label to help with distribution.
The Dirty Nil will be playing during Canadian Music Week in Toronto in the month of March.
