Meanwhile, the University of Guelph has been awarded the Intramural Achievement Award by CIRA (the Canadian Intramural Recreation Association) for their outstanding Intramural program for the 3rd consecutive year. Thirty-six elementary schools, 8 secondary schools and 4 universities were awarded this distinction in 2006.

Guelph was selected due to the variety of activities that promote CIRA Ontario's motto of "Fun Active Participation for All". All programs recognized and involved students in a leadership capacity.

During the 2005-2006 campaign, U of G's Intramural program registered a total of 1,457 teams. This figure is up 30 teams from the previous year. A total of 1,434 individual "free agents" registered this season compared to 1,174 last year. Overall, 14,503 individuals participated in Intramural activities including 8,843 males and 5,608 females. In addition, the program ran special events to raise funds for charities such as Guelph Food Bank, University Food Bank, Adopt a Family program and United Way.

Congratulations to Grachella Garcia, our Intramural Program Supervisor, and
all of her staff.
