Jackfruit and The Speakeasies

ebar, 41 Quebec St.

The Vancouver band Jackfruit is bringing their CD release tour through the Royal City and will be accompanied by those local bootleggers of fine music, The Speakeasies. This should be a great evening of music if you’re for something laid back but hoppin’.

 Friday September 18

Royal Wood & The Good Lovelies

Dublin St. United Church, 68 Suffolk St. W.

8 pm

Two Toronto artists make the drive up to Guelph. First up is the well-regarded pianist Royal Wood, followed by rockabilly girl band The Good Lovelies. This one’s being co-sponsored by the CSA, so you know what that means: discounted tickets if you’re an undergrad!

Japandroids with Mt. St. Helen’s Vietnam Band & Little Girls

The Albion, 49 Norfolk St.

9 pm

West coast-based garage rock band Japandroid does a show here and in Toronto before heading back stateside. Also from out west is Mt. St. Helen’s Vietnam Band, but their home base is actually stateside in Seattle. Toronto’s Little Girls will tip Can Con back in our favour.

 Crush Luther

11 pm

The Crush are big in Guelph, so come on out Friday and see what the fuss is about. It’s pay-what-you-can the band’s latest album Some People Have No Good To Give becomes available for download starting September 29th.

U of G Heavy Metal Club Presents: Back to School at the Brass Taps

The Brass Taps, University of Guelph

Yes, it seems that the U of G has a Heavy Metal Club. Anyway, their show is set to include performances by Raven Shade, Destroy the Prophet, Beyond a Broken Word, Geneva Project, At Falls End and Punishment. The show is all ages/licensed so everyone’s welcome, and bring your ear plugs. Ear health is no joke, people.
