Housing Classifieds

Recently, thecannon has had problems with landlords posting multiple classified ads for properties at the same address in the same category, or posting classifieds for properties in inappropriate categories.

According to thecannon's User Agreement, users may not post more than one posting in a single category for the same item, or post items where they do not belong. This means that users may not:

  • Post multiple housing ads for each room in a rental property;
  • Post an ad for the same property multiple times over several days;
  • Post multiple ads for multiple payment schemes (per room, per house) for a single rental property;
  • Post rental properties in multiple categories that are mutually exclusive (i.e. a house cannot also be an apartment, a single room cannot also be a double room, etc.)
  • Do any of the above, by using different accounts

These rules are applicable to all categories in the classifieds section.

The rules are place so that the classified section presents a realistic picture of what is available. They also prevent posters from flooding the classifieds section with their ads to the exclusion of others.

After logging in, users may access the "My Classifieds" link at the top of the page to edit and delete their classifieds.

Three days before a classified it set to expire (after three weeks) users will receive an email asking if they would like to renew their classified. For that reason, there is no need to continually re-post a classified.

Users are strongly encouraged to consult thecannon's User Agreement before posting classifieds to ensure they are in compliance with the rules.

Pet fraud alert

Over the past two weeks, there have been multiple complaints about pets for sale on thecannon, including possible scams involving pet vendors in Pakistan, the United Kingdom and the United States.

The vast majority of fraudulent classifieds involve users from outside Canada. In order to minimize the possibility of fraudulent activity, thecannon's User Agreement requries that user accounts and classifieds originate within Canada.

User accounts and classifieds that have contact information outside the country are immediately deleted.

Users are strongly encouraged to deal only with pet owners in Canada. Please report any classifieds with contact information originating outside the country to thecannon staff immediately.

Thecannon does not review content posted in the classifieds section. Users who buy pets through thecannon's classifieds should first  ensure the animal is properly registered, has the appropriate vaccinations and is legal to own in whatever jurisdiction they reside.

As always, users are encouraged to take precautions when dealing with buyers or sellers online. Please consult thecannon's Best Practices Guide for more information about avoiding frauds and scams.

Thank you for your understanding, and keep loading thecannon!
