Written by Tom Fischer

This letter is in response to the recent tragic murder of 67-year-old Shirley McColeman. The murder took place at 646 Paisley Road here, in Guelph.

Dear Editor,

I was deeply saddened to read the news of the terrible tragedy that has befallen our beloved Maxwellton.

"Maxwellton" was the name my mother gave to our family's home where I grew up with my parents, brother and sisters through the 60's and much of the 70's. It was always a happy place, full of love and fun.

I have so many fond memories of family life in Guelph when life seemed to move at a slower pace. Our home was actually well outside the city limits then, surrounded by great swimming in the gravel pits.

Now these memories are to be forever tarnished by the thoughts of this grisly event.
