Need some extra cash? Want to fill-out that void of a portfolio? Perhaps your thoughts, written, are worth a little more than time lost. We have the podium, we just need the voice.
The Cannon and affiliates are happy to announce that we are starting a freelancer program for writers. We want to hear from you, the student body, and we want to pay you for the privilege.
Here’s how you can get paid:
- First, come up with an idea, a pitch, a story you want to write. This could be an event you want to cover, a review or an opinion. Anything that mirrors, magnifies or criticizes the student experience at the University of Guelph.
- Meet with the Editor of The Cannon to pitch your idea. You can do this in person, at his office hours (Tuesdays, 12-4pm) or through email: .
- Once you and the Editor have agreed on a topic, the pay for the word count requested and the deadline, you write.
- Get paid.
- Get published.
That’s all there is to it. For more information feel free to email Editor-in-Chief, Chris Carr at the email above. Not all pitches will be approved for publication, and therefore, not all submissions will be paid.
We pay 5 cents per words, with a usual submission size of 600 words per piece.
We look forward to reading your material and hearing your voices.
