What
OPIRG is a campus based activist centre for environmental and social justice.
Get involved with the OPIRG Board of Directors!
We are fast approaching our annual Board of Director elections and we are looking for several dedicated Board members. Are you one of them?
What does a Board Member do? And why would I be interested?
The Board of Directors work collectively to determine the direction of OPIRG and to ensure it is meeting it’s legal and financial obligations. The Board is also involved with planning the events and conferences that the organization holds and deciding on the focus of research projects.
We are dedicated to providing skills training for all of our Board members. This is why Board experience is not necessary. We provide training in financial management of a non-profit, facilitation and consensus decision making, non-profit governance and effective meeting skills. We believe that the skills gained at OPIRG will serve you well for the rest of your life. Many of our former Board members have become Executive Directors of non-profits all over Canada and internationally.
Being on the OPIRG Board of Directors is a big commitment but the rewards are great! At OPIRG you will meet a group of staff and volunteers dedicated to local and global social and environmental justice. People working every day for change. You can be a part of this change by running for election to the Board of Directors.
What kind of experience do I need to be a Board Member?
There is no experience requirement for being on the Board. You do need: to be dedicated to social and environmental justice, to be willing to work cooperatively with staff and other volunteers, to be an OPIRG member (all full time undergrad and graduate students who have not received a levy refund are members). We especially encourage the contributions and experience that individuals from marginalized communities bring to our organization. We are dedicated to creating a work and volunteer environment that respects and supports the diverse experiences and contributions of our members. We have a wheelchair accessible office.
Now I’m interested! How do I apply?
