Cuts for Cancer Guelph Hair-cutting Fundraiser

  • Date

    March 2 - 4

  • What

Cuts for Cancer Guelph and Kharisma Hair Design present the 2012 hair-cutting fundraising event March 2 and 3 in the atrium of the Stone Road Mall, and March 4 at the Sleeman Centre during the Guelph Storm game against the Ottawa 67’s. All members of the Guelph community are invited to participate and can get started by visiting the Cuts for Cancer Guelph website at: www.cutsforcancerguelph.ca.

Since 2010, Cuts for Cancer Guelph has hosted an annual community-wide fundraising event that challenges participants to donate their hair or shave their heads in to raise money in support of childhood cancer research in Canada. In the last two years we have raised more than $22,000 to benefit the Childhood Cancer Canada Foundation, providing research grants to Canadian institutions pursuing the most promising new cures for childhood cancer. More than 150 ponytails have been collected to date, all of which have gone toward making real-hair wigs for patients who have lost their hair during cancer treatment.

We accept donations of ponytails of 8” or longer (10” if they are coloured) so that wigs may be made for women, children and young adults who have lost their hair during cancer treatment. The hair we collect goes to Pantene Beautiful Lengths Canada (or Locks of Love if it is colour-treated). Each ponytail donated has a retail value of about $200 and an invaluable impact on the self esteem of a child or women facing hair loss due to cancer treatment.

Our fundraising is facilitated through the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a charitable organization that works in countries around the world to raise money for essential childhood cancer research. Donations can be made at the event or online at the above web address, and donations will be accepted until the end of March. As a thank-you to our participants, we are awarding a downtown Toronto prize package to the top fundraiser, including food, entertainment, and a stay at the Delta Chelsea hotel.

We are also excited to announce that the Guelph Storm Hockey Club has joined our efforts to help conquer kids’ cancer! Three Guelph Storm players have bravely offered their hair to the cause. Guelph community members can help add to our fundraising goal by sponsoring their favorite Guelph Storm Player or by purchasing tickets to the March 4 Guelph Storm vs Ottawa 67s game through our website - 50% of the ticket price goes straight to Childhood Cancer Canada.

This year, we hope to raise $30,000 for Childhood Cancer Canada and collect 75 ponytails! Every dollar helps and every cut counts!
