What
The political changes in Bolivia are being closely watched by social movements, community-based organizations, the Latin American diaspora, students, and development theorists and practitioners all over the world. Bolivia is one of only a few Latin American countries remaining on Canada’s official international development agenda.
The keynote speaker coming to Canada especially for this event is Hugo Salvatierra Gutiérrez, founder of the MAS-Santa Cruz, first Minister for Rural Development, Agriculture and Environment in the Evo Morales government, and Director of ALAS (Asesoría Legal y de Asistencia Social), an office that works with labour, peasant and indigenous organizations in Santa Cruz, Bolivia.
The large number of students as well as academics, development practitioners, and community members expected to attend this event will create a valuable learning opportunity. The creation of a Bolivia solidarity organization with objectives complementary to those of the University and other community organizations opens up the potential for greater collaboration, joint action and results.
