    Please join the Student Help and Advocacy Centre (SHAC), Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE), Campus Police Services, the V-Day Crew, and the Guelph Resource Centre for Gender Empowerment and Diversity (GRCGED) to honor and remember the fourteen women shot and killed ...at l'Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal on December 6th, 1989.

    9am – 4:30pm UC Courtyard – Anniversary of Polytechnique: There will be an all-day commemorative display, guest book, and informational pamphlets in the middle of the UC Courtyard. Facilitators and organizers will be present all day to discuss violence against women with anyone who would like to talk.

    Noon-1pm UC Courtyard – Rose Ceremony: Speakers (so far including Michelle Oliver [Professor from the Engineering Department], Lauren Patrick [Engineering student], Demetria Jackson [CSA External Affairs Commissioner], and Brenda Whiteside [VP of Student Affairs]) will hold a commemorative ceremony by reading names and speaking about violence against women, after which there will be a procession to the Science and Engineering Garden on campus. There will then be a wreath-laying ceremony, musical accompaniment featuring Nicole Bougainvilleas, a minute of silence, and final prayers.

    5:30-7pm UC 103 – Film Screening of “Polytechnique” by Dennis Villenave: "Polytechnique" is a 2009 Canadian film from Quebec written by Jacques Davidts and Denis Villeneuve and directed by Denis Villeneuve. Set in Montreal, Quebec and based on the École Polytechnique massacre (also known as the "Montreal Massacre"), the film documents the events of December 6, 1989 through the eyes of two students who witness a gunman murder fourteen young women. There will be a discussion period after in which people are welcome to share their thoughts and feelings in a safe space. Free snacks and beverages will be available!     All Day Crisis Support & Counselling - Due to the sensitive nature of this event, there will be at least one crisis support person available to talk at all times in the UC Courtyard. Walk-in Crisis Support is also available at Student Counselling Services on the 3rd floor of the UC from 1-4pm on December 6th. Please feel welcome to use these free services if you need any help at all or just want to talk.
