Folkway Music’s First Concert of 2012: Jason Fowler & Jory Nash

Jason Fowler is known primarily as one of Canada’s most accomplished fingerstyle guitarists. Nash’s warm, unique voice urges you to listen to his thoughtful lyrics and intricate melodies. Together they make an irresistible duo that you won’t want to miss.

Jason Fowler is a Toronto singer/songwriter, session guitarist and producer.  A two-time winner at the Walnut Valley National Guitar Championships, in both the Fingerpicking and Flatpicking categories ( a rare accomplishment), Jason is acknowledged as one of Canada’s most gifted guitarists (he also holds a degree in Classical Guitar Performance from McGill University).  His latest CD, Buckets of Rain is a solo acoustic collection of 14 covers of songs by the likes of Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Doc Watson, Arlo Guthrie and  Bruce Cockburn. In addition to his own successful solo career, Jason is also currently the Musical Director & Guitarist for renowned Irish tenor John McDermott, and has toured with him since 2001. He has played with a who’s who of the Canadian roots music scene including Amy Sky, Marc Jordan, Susan Aglukark, Quartette, Nana Mouskouri and Murray McLauchlan.  www.jasonfowler.ca

Jory Nash  is a past recipient of the Ontario Council of Folk Festivals’ Songs From The Heart songwriting award. His songs have been included on numerous compilation CDs and he has even had his songs covered by artists such as Lori Cullen. Playing acoustic guitar, piano and banjo, his music blends elements of folk, jazz, pop, country, soul and blues.  Jory Nash is co-founder and producer of “The Way We Feel”, a large-scale, multi-artist annual concert celebrating the music of Gordon Lightfoot. The show has been recorded for broadcast by CBC Radio and has featured dozens of different Canadian Roots music artists over the years. Gordon Lightfoot himself has several times appeared with guitar in hand to play in the show. In 2012/2013 the show will mark its 10th anniversary with a theatre tour across parts of Canada. www.jorynash.com
