The Real St. Patrick A Celebration of Ireland’s Patron Saint

  • Date

    Saturday, March 17, 2012

  • What

"This event is in support of The Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington with proceeds going towards Foundation programs to help children in disadvantaged life situations throughout Guelph and Wellington County.

A group of Celtic musicians are determined to restore the dignity of the annual celebration in the honour of the patron saint of Ireland.  “It was time to put the Saint back in the celebration of our national day,” Irish-born musician Eugene Rea said.  “The meaning of St. Patrick’s Day has been obscured through commercializations.”    This event will feature over 20 musical performers and dancers and will convey the Celtic Tradition, and the sense of the reality of the man who helped spread Christianity throughout the pagan Celtic world.

The Guelph community will experience a traditional evening of Celtic art, dance and music featuring Uillean Pipes, Fiddles, Pennywhistles, Irish Flues, Piano, Accordion, Celtic Harp, Bodhran as well as World Champion Dancers.  Featured performers include The Royal Academy of Irish Dance, Gaedelica (Karen MacLeod and Jason Pfeifer), The Occasionals (Fiona McCairley, Amy McCann, Graham Kidd), World Champion Dancer Daniel Carr and The Celts featuring Nonie Crete, Eugene Rea, Gary Kreller, Hollie Anne, Anne Lederman, David Woodhead and Paul Gribbon."
