350 for a Global Day of Climate Action - Guelph Meeting
Wednesday, September 2, 2009
What: 350 Meeting #2
Where: CSA Boardroom, 2nd Floor, University Centre, University of Guelph
When: Wednesday, September 2, 7-9pm
Why: This is an invitation to help build a movement - to take one day and use it to stop the climate crisis.
This October 24th the extremely rocking campaign 350.org is organizing the largest ever grassroots day of climate action.
So far in Canada there are inspiring actions registered all across the country. Thousands of Canadians are going to Fill the [Parliament] Hill, a mosaic of actions are registered for Vancouver, folks in Calgary are scaling the Rocky Mountains, Toronto is getting folks out to Dundas Square for a party and festivals are being planned across the country!
The timing of this action is key: when the Canadian Government heads to Copenhagen this December to negotiate a new international climate agreement they will have to factor into their decision making what Canadians want - a strong, fair, position on climate change that we all asked for. If we are able to mobilize enough Canadians on the 24th we will make it absolutely impossible for our elected officials to ignore us.
So, we need to put Guelph on the map for this day. We have a history of putting on great climate change events as part of global activities (and a much bigger history of running great events across the community) so let's put our heads together and make something fantastic happen on October 24th!
